Products Description

The FM Approved K5.6 Sidewall Sprinkler is designed for horizontal sidewall installation and features a Ø3mm quick-response glass bulb for fast thermal activation. Unlike conventional pendent or upright sprinklers that discharge water primarily downward, this sprinkler distributes water sideways in a half-parabolic spray pattern, providing effective coverage across the protected area from a wall-mounted position.
With a K5.6 flow coefficient and compact sidewall design, it is suitable for applications where ceiling-mounted sprinkler piping is difficult, impractical, or undesirable. Installing the sprinkler on one wall can provide coverage toward the room or protected area while helping simplify piping arrangements.

Two Numbers, One Head
The 3mm glass bulb provides quick thermal response, while the sidewall deflector controls the direction and distribution of the discharge. These two features work together to suit applications where a conventional pendent sprinkler on a ceiling grid is not the ideal solution.
Instead of directing water primarily downward, the sidewall design projects the discharge outward across the protected area, making it a practical choice for rooms, corridors, and spaces where wall-mounted installation can simplify the sprinkler layout.
01 - THERMAL ELEMENT
Ø3mm bulb, RTI ≤ 50
The Ø3 mm glass bulb has lower thermal mass than a conventional 5 mm bulb, allowing it to respond more quickly to rising temperatures. With an RTI ≤ 50 (m·s)⁰·⁵, it meets the FM quick-response classification, enabling earlier sprinkler activation under the same fire conditions.
This faster thermal response helps the sprinkler react promptly during the early stage of a fire, supporting more timely water discharge.
02 - DEFLECTOR GEOMETRY
Half-parabolic side spray
The deflector directs water outward and along the wall rather than primarily downward. Its asymmetric, half-parabolic spray pattern is designed to distribute water across the protected area from a wall-mounted position, making it suitable for spaces where ceiling-mounted sprinklers are impractical or undesirable.
Reading the side-spray footprint
Mounted 100–150mm below the ceiling on a single wall, the head throws its fan across the room instead of down onto it. Here's what that footprint looks like from above.

SINGLE SOURCE, FULL ROOM
This broad, asymmetrical spray pattern enables the sidewall sprinkler to cover the outermost corners of a space while mounted on just one wall. Thanks to this capability, a single sidewall sprinkler can substitute systems with two or three pendent sprinklers for small rooms.
ONE BRANCH LINE
As the sprinkler is wall-mounted, its supply pipeline can be routed along the same wall. For multi-room projects such as hotel floors and dormitory hallways, each room only requires a single branch pipe, eliminating the need for ceiling pipe grids.
CEILING STAYS UNTOUCHED
This solution fits scenarios where ceiling space is constrained: buildings with exposed beams, ventilation ducts, limited plenum depth, or retrofit projects with finished ceilings that clients prefer not to demolish.

Where It's Specified
Rooms built for a wall-mounted head
Hotels & Guest Rooms
One head per room, mounted above the corridor-side wall, keeps the ceiling clean for lighting and HVAC.
Corridors & Hallways
Long, narrow spans are exactly what the half-parabolic throw is shaped for - full-width coverage from one side.
Retrofit Projects
Where a finished ceiling can't be opened, the branch line stays inside the wall and the ceiling is never touched.
Low-Clearance Ceilings
Exposed beams, ductwork, or shallow plenum space rule out pendent heads - the sidewall bypasses the problem entirely.
